Unique situation on one of the best beaches in Vanuatu. Relaxing base for tours in a secluded environment. Close to Champagne Beach, North-East Santo and 1/2h drive from Big Bay National Park. Good snorkelling and fishing.
Accommodation: 9 bungalows built mainly of local materials : 6 bungalows with a double and a twin, 2 family bungalows, one honeymoon bungalow. Lighting is on kerosene lamps and candles (take a torch if you like reading in bed). A big white sandy beach is on your doorstep. Four toilets and shower blocks (shared). Cold water only.
Simple cuisine is available from the restaurant, mostly cooked from local products. Try the Santo steak amongst the best in the world for their taste and tenderness.Barbecued fish are available on request. Limited bar list.
Tours and activities: All tours are conducted by a local English speaking guide.
SONLB5-Garden tour: Your guide will take you by foot up the cliff overlooking the bay and you will discover how local vegetables, fruits, yams, manioc and medicinal plants are cultivated (approx. 1h 1/2).
SONLB6-Elephant Island half day tour: The boat will take you to the impressive Elephant Island across from the resort. You will have timeto swim, snorkel on the beautiful corals or explore the island tracks (includes transport and entry fees).
SONLB7-Free Canoe hire: Learn to paddle traditional canoes in a totally sheltered bay. Our staff will show you the basics and you will be able to discover small coves unaccessible by foot.
SONLB8-Hog Harbour village tour: You will visit the adjoining village of Hog Harbour, centre of Presbyterian northeast Santo. Your guide will show you some houses and explain to you the local customs (approx. 1h 1/2).
SONLB9-Sunset bottom fishing: Leave before sunset for a reef where you will anchor and start fishing while the sun sets. If successful, your catch will be barbecued upon your return (2 hours).
SONLB10-Blue Hole: Short tour by local vehicle (approx. 11/2h ). This tour will take you to one of the famous Santo Blue holes to swim in the fresh cool water surging from the ground from a 15m deep hole.
SONLB11-Big Bay Natural Conservation Area: Full day tour by local vehicle and by foot. In Matantas, entrance to Big Bay Conservation Area, you will start a full day nature walk through rainforest. Your guide, speaking Bislama and some English, will provide information on the trees, some of them several centuries old and he will help you see the numerous birds living in the forest.
SONLB12-Half day fishing: Half day tour by boat for bottom fishing for poulet or trolling outside the islands for bonitos, wahoo, dolphin fish and tuna (approx. 4h) Maximum 4 passengers.
