Tuvalu (Introduction)

This beautiful tropical island consists of a chain of nine low-lying coral atolls, situated in the central Pacific, just west of the International Dateline. The word Tuvalu means 'cluster of eight' and aptly describes the coral atoll group.

The world's second smallest country with a total of only 26 square kilometres, Tuvalu has a pleasant tropical climate with little variation between day and night. All nine islands are inhabited with one or two villages on each outer island. Funafuti is its capital and administrative centre.
