| The Tongan Beach Resort is an island
resort that offers the best of both worlds—the isolation of an island,
with the convenience of being linked to the mainland by a causeway. The
resort has been built not only to offer comfortable accommodations, but
also to preserve the island lifestyle.
The twelve western style bungalows are right at
the water's edge on beautiful Hiku Tamole Beach, with safe swimming at
both high and low tides. The accommodations consist of double rooms with
private toilets and hot showers, refrigerators, electric fans, and
tea/coffee facilities. |

| Divers will find
"the Tongan" to be a great base of operations. Tongan scuba
sites are rated among the best in the world. The sunken copra schooner in
Port of Refuge Harbor is a must, as is Mariner's Cave. Take half- or
full-day trips to outlying islands, such as beatiful Vaku'eitu, or just
explore the local coral.
Non-divers will also find plenty to do.
Snorkeling equipment, surf-skis and outrigger canoes are free to guests.
Wind surfers, Hobie Cats, and Sunfish sailing boats are available for
hire, as are mopeds and bicycles. Horseback riding through plantations and
nearby villages, land tours via mini-bus, and all-day trimaran sailing
trips can be arranged. The less adventurous may wish to stroll through the
nearby village of Utungake, where native handicrafts are made.
Yacht charters on the gafftopsail ketch Melinda
are available by day, overnight and weekly. Her eye-catching red sails and
wooden masts provide a romantic setting to sail Vava'u's beautiful islands
in style. Comes fully crewed, with a hot shower and plenty of home
comforts. |
