Fafa
is an idyllic seven hectare coral atoll located half an hour by boat from
the township of Nuku'alofa. Although Tonga was the first country to
reach the new millennium, the pace of life on Fafa has changed little
since the first coconut palm bore fruit.
A
maximum of 32 guests stay in thatch-roofed fales surrounded by gardens
filled with tropical flowers - there are eight rustic fales and eight
deluxe beach bungalows with enclosed courtyards.
Accommodation is offered in either traditional
thatched fales or deluxe beach fales. The guest fales are built in
traditional Polynesian style with palm trunks, palm leaves and wooden
furnishings, and can accommodate up to 3 people. All fales have
electricity and private bathrooms. The standard fales are built in a
village setting, surrounded by a tropical garden. The beachfront fales are
set amongst palm trees, just a few steps away from the beach.
Fafa is noted for the quality of its
seafood, Tongan/European
cuisine, its wine list and an array of tropical cocktails. The
restaurant and open bar is the meeting place of the resort.
Available activities include volleyball, coral
viewing, snorkeling, sailboats, bushwalking, swimming, fishing, and a
library. Scuba diving, deep sea fishing and yacht sailing can be arranged
at extra cost.
The
lifestyle on Fafa is uncomplicated. Rooms are not air-conditioned and the
bar and restaurant are open-air. But simplicity doesn't imply a lack of
comfort or romance. |
