Cruises
With a capacity of 102 passengers, the motorship
Terra Australis sails for week long cruises in the area of Patagonia and
Tierra del Fuego including the exhilarating experience of passage through
the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel. Terra Australis sails from
Punta Arenas, September through April.
In the midst of Tierra del Fuego’s channels and
fjords, you will discover the territory where the indigenous people of
these faraway lands lived, the Yamanas, Onas, Alacalufes and Tehuelches.
During the crossing, we will relive the history
of the fantastic adventures. Sailing across channels, bays, fjords,
glaciers, snowy peaks, islands and forests of breath taking beauty, you
will discover the imposing glaciers of Agostini, Garibaldi and others and
you will never forget their awesome presence. And if the spirit of
adventure seduces you, you will have the opportunity to get close to the
glacier in zodiac boats or to walk along paths through forests of native
species. |

In
cruises of seven, four or three nights, you will discover Punta Arenas, on
the western shore of the Magellan Strait, Puerto Williams, the world’s
southern most city and Ushuaia, the Argentine City of Tierra del Fuego.

Day 1 Saturday: Punta
Arenas-Chile
13:00-18:00 hours: Check-in at the Hotel Cabo de Hornos. 17:00
hours: Start your cruise, boarding the ‘TERRA AUSTRALIS". After
being shown to your cabin, the Captain and crew will welcome you aboard
with a cocktail party when you get to meet your fellow shipmates. Shortly
after, the ship will sail to the ends of the world, through fabled Strait
of Magellan towards Tierra del Fuego (Fire Island) and Patagonia. Welcome
aboard dinner: Penguin Night
Day 2 Sunday: Almirantazgo
Cove - Brookes Bay Gallego Cove - Brookes Glacier
At dawn and after sailing through the Brookes Cove we will dock in
front of Gallegos Glacier. The focus of this morning is the Darwin
Cordillera. Mother nature is runing the show, weather permiting we will be
exploring Brookes Cove in our zodiacs. We also have some business to
attend this morning. We will perform an abandon ship drill before
disembarking on Brookes Cove. This evening, brings our recap of this
fabulous adventure, which will be inmediately followed by dinner. 07:30
AM: Breakfast.
08:00 AM: Dock at Gallegos Cove. 09:30 AM: Lecture I. 11:00 AM: Dock and
disembark in Brookes Glacier. 01:30 PM: Lunch.
05:00 PM: Lecture 2. 08:00 PM: Recap. 08:30 PM: Dinner 10:30 PM: Karaoke
Day 3 Monday:
Dawn brings us to Agostini Bay, where we will disembark to view the
Serrano Glacier. After returning to the ship, we will sail the Magdalena
Channel and reach the Brenock Channel. Lunch on board Social hour, recap
of day’s activities followed by dinner. Bingo Night with the chance of
winning prizes from our exclusive boutique.
Day 4 Tuesday:
After sailing through Desolate Bay and the Whaling and O’Brien
Channels, we will enter the northeast branch of the Beagle Channel,
disembarking at Yendagia Bay, first estancia in Tierra del Fuego. Get your
cameras and binoculars ready for your first sights of the majestic
"Avenue of the Glaciers". The ship will stop and a lecture on
glaciers will follow. We set sail for Puerto Williams, capital of the
Chilean Antarctica Region. In theoptional tours offered, we can visit the
Martin Gusinde Museum, Castor Lagoonor overfly the spectacular and
legendary Cape Horn. Social hour and recap. The Captain invites us for our
Midcruise Dinner, saying farewell to the passengers disembarking at
Ushuaia. This evening, the Terra Australis pirate will entertain you at
the Sky Lounge, dancing the limbo and other tropical dances.
Day 5 Wednesday:
Leave Puerto Williams at 4.00 a.m., slowly sailing across the
Beagle Channel toreach Ushuaia, Argentina at dawn, on Tierra del Fuego.
Passengers leaving the ship at this port must comply with entry documents
into Argentina. Boarding of new passengers and welcome cocktail Sail from
Ushuaia, social hour, recap and lecture. Dinner and Tango Night
Day 6 Thursday:
We sail the main branch of the Beagle Channel and Garibaldi Bay,
where we will sight the impressive Garibaldi Glacier and the eternally
snowcapped Darwin Mountains. Our zodiac excursion will take us to a
protected beach in this pristine and beautiful area and observe a small
sea lion colony and a cormorant rookery. We return by way of the Whaling
and O’Brien Channels, Desolate Bay, Aguirre Pass and Brecknock Channel.

Day 7 Friday:
Return to Punta Arenas, Chile, sailing through the Strait of
Magellan, with a prior visit to Fort Bulnes and a spectacular stop at
Magdalena Island, site of a penguin rookery with over 60,000 pairs.
Farewell Cocktail Party The Captain hosts the Farewell Dinner,
followed by a video presentation of the cruise. Arrival at Punta Arenas.
Day 8 Saturday:
08:00 hours: After breakfast, disembarkation.
Cruise can also be 3 or 4 nights from Punta
Arenas to Ushuaia or Ushuaia to Punta Arenas. Punta Arenas to Ushuaia
cruises Saturday to Wednesday. Ushuaia to Punta Arenas cruises Wednesday
to Saturday.

M/V Terra Australis is a different kind of cruise. It takes you to places

A journey to the "End of the World" on
board the M/V TERRA AUSTRALIS, is a unique adventure at the
Patagonia region. Departing from Punta Arenas, Chile, every Thursday from
September through April, crossing the Magellan’s Straight, the vessel
will navigate along the Beagle Channel up to Ushuaia, capital of Tierra
del Fuego, visiting nine glaciers, virgin forests, lakes and the splendid
flora and fauna of one of the world’s few uncontaminated regions.
Passengers will also get to know the remains of nearly extinct native
cultures.
The M/V "Terra Australis" was built in
1983 in the United States, in the shipyard of Chesapeake Shipbuilding Inc.
Its length is 67.07 meters and it has a displacement of 1,086 metric tons.
It can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 114
passengers in 55 cabins, distributed in 6 categories. It has 40
crewmembers and operates between September and April of each year.
All cabins have low beds, views and private
bathrooms. There are 2 suites, 30 AA cabins, of which 7 have a double bed,
10 A cabins, 9 B cabins, two triple cabins and 2 single ones. Optional
beds can also be used and this allows 6 double cabins to be converted into
triple ones.
Our cabins are fully equipped and have the
following characteristics: private bathroom with shower, heating or air
conditioning, low beds, wardrobe, closet, bedside table, internal
telephones and electric sockets for 110 volts.
