Chile
Central Region

This area comprises the regions of Valparaíso, Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, Maule (V, VI and VII regions correspondingly), apart from the Metropolitan Region, where the capital of Chile, Santiago city, is located.

No doubt this is the zone where we find most of the administrative, economic, political and cultural activities of the country

Cities such as Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Los Andes, San Antonio and Talca, have developed in an area of the country which offers an excellent weather and terrain, ideal for almost any kind of economic activity: agriculture, mining, fishing, tourism, and so forth.

The areas devoted to protect the typical species of these zones are numberless: La Campana National Park, the only one in Valparaíso region; the reserves Río Los Cipreses, Radal 7 Tazas, Altos de Lircay and Laguna Torca, in the regions of O’Higgins and Maule.

The national parks of Rapa Nui and Juan Fernández, in Easter Island and in Juan Fernández archipelago, are remarkable not only by the archeological mystery of the first one, but also by the uniqueness of the ecological system of the last one.

No doubt Chile is the main destination for South American skiers. In the central area, we can find the most famed ski centers: Portillo, Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Colorado-Farellones.
