Walindi Plantation Resort, a renowned dive resort
with the most accessible reef diving in the world, is located on the
island of New Britain, north of the mainland. It is also a working palm
oil plantation. The resort is ¾-hour drive from Hoskins airport, past the
town of Kimbe.
Facilities include a pool, tennis court and a
photo shop with E-6 processing. Activities offered are numerous—try
boating, sport fishing, hiking, hot springs visits and, of course, scuba
diving.
Walindi
Plantation Resort in New Britain is a diver's dream come true. A maximum
of 22 divers receive undivided attention as they explore the hundreds of
reefs and dive sights of Kimbe Bay.
New
Guinea's largest offshore island, New Britain, is famous for its
magnificent marine life and is regarded as one of the South Pacific's best
diving areas.
To
fully appreciate the underwater botanical garden and exquisite tropical
fish, guests may also opt to cruise the endless ink blue waters on the
live-aboard dive boat, the M.V. FeBrina. This 72 foot, fully
air-conditioned luxury vessel can transport visitors to spectacular diving
attractions in comfort and style, with moorings installed on most dive
sites. Life
on board the FeBrina is carefree and casual. The only decisions to make
are whether to dive, eat, snorkel, sunbathe or retire to the roomy,
private cabins.

Back
at Walindi, guests float around on a sea of tranquillity, enjoying the
exotic ambience of the resort. As Walindi Plantation is the only operator
at Kimbe Bay, guests enjoy complete privacy.
Ten
waterfront thatched bungalows, each with private bathroom, refrigerator
and tea and coffee making facilities provide accommodation which combines
a taste of the tropics with the pleasures of modern amenities.
Extensive
buffet style meals and the well-stocked bar keep guests well satiated,
while activities like swimming, scuba diving, walking, tennis and golf
fill in the spaces between dives and doing absolutely nothing at all.
History
|
| The plantation area that
surrounds the resort was originally established in 1935. The old
plantation was purchased by its present owners, Max and Cecily Benjamin in
1969, and to this day the orderly rows of palm trees still produce palm
oil nuts used to produce palm oil.
In 1983 Walindi Plantation Resort was born from
the interest of visiting local and overseas scuba divers who recognized
the incredible diving in this area. Since then it has been visited by some
of the worlds most renowned divers and underwater photographers.
