| Golden Dawn is 80 feet in length and
22 feet wide with five twin cabins and one master cabin, all fully
air-conditioned and sharing four bathrooms. Total number of passengers is
twelve. There is a spacious lounge area with a television and VCR for
either watching underwater videos or movies at night.
You will appreciate the plenty of room to stretch
out in either the sun or shade in between dives. Golden Dawn departs
from Port Moresby and heads out 85 miles to reefs in the Eastern Fields
and Northern Coral Sea between Papua New Guinea and Australia. Trips are
for ten nights.
Golden Dawn is pioneering dive operations at the
spectacular Eastern Fields, a submerged atoll covering over 400 square
miles. Most of this reef system is still unexplored, and with the
unbelievable visibility—up to 200feet!—and the great variety and
number of pelagic life, the Eastern Fields is a dream come true for
experienced divers. Expect to meet large dog-tooth tuna, schools of yellow
fin and blue fin tuna, spanish mackerel, wahoo, eagle and manta rays,
horse-eye jacks and schools of spiraling barracuda. |

| Grey reef sharks and
silver tips are frequently encountered, and the great and scalloped
hammerhead sharks will make an appearance regularly. There is plenty of
fascinating smaller fare, such as nudibranch and flat worms that have not
even been identified yet!
The best time to visit here is from October to
January and April to late May. Visibility is generally good all year,
though it can vary when currents shift seasonally. In early November, you
can witness the coral spawn, then plankton blooms and algae blooms.
Regardless of wind conditions, diving at Eastern Fields is always
protected due to the reef system. |
