The Awahnee Hotel

| A massive, six-story
structure with three wings, faced with native granite and carefully dyed
concrete, which was poured and specially formed to resemble redwood boards
and beams. Built in 1927, it is the grand lady of the park.
With 123 hotel rooms and 24
cottages, the Ahwahnee is one of America's most distinctive addresses.
Huge cathedral ceilings, enormous stone hearths and richly colored Indian
and Oriental rugs. Designated a National Historic Landmark.
Open year round with its "main
dining room" Indian Room Bar and of course room service.
Afternoon "Tea" served in the Great Lounge. The hotel
offers a swimming
pool and unmatched views of the Yosemite Valley from the beautiful grounds.
"The Dining
Room"
The place to dine is the main dining room. Famous for
its American cuisine and the decor of this very large room with dome
ceiling and floor to ceiling windows. Dress code for dinner is
"coat and tie for gentlemen" and "appropriate evening wear
for ladies". No jeans, sneakers or sweats allowed. Trully
a unique experience. |

Standard Rooms |
- Main Building Rooms: Located in
the main building are average size hotel roms which envoke an era of
rustic charm. Full bath, TV, phones, refrig/cooler and AC.
Accented with original Native American designs. They are either
a king bed or two double beds.
- Cottage Rooms: Are located about 100 yards behind the main building on
a pleasant path through tall pine trees. Native Indian accents
and unique furnishings utilizing natural woods and granite create the
atmosphere of being in a moutain lodge. Each room has phones,
TV, ceiling fan, refrig/cooler, but no AC. All rooms open onto
small stone patio areas with chairs and a view of the pine trees.
They all come with a king bed or two double beds and full bath.
Two have fireplaces which may be requested but not guananteed. Two
double beds in main building or one king bed in cottage unit.
The Suites |
- El Dorado Room
Located on the first floor and true to Ahwahnee tradition this
unique room combines Native American artistry and comfort with a
"sunken" sitting room, refrig/cooler, jacuzzi tub, phone,
TV-VCR. It has a king bed and a doulbe hide-a-bed.

- JFK Suite
Located on the second floor and is a combination of three
rooms. Sleeping room with two double beds with balcony access,
TV. A Parlor room with large windows, desk, one double sofa bed,
TV and fireplace. Then another sleeping room with one king bed
with balcony access, TV.
The 6th Floor Rooms & Suites |
Guests
here have a feeling of being very special. Access to this floor is
only with a 6th floor room key on the elevator. Rates subject to
date of arrival. Combinations of rooms make up the suites and
therefore effect the pricing of each suite. The prices listed are an
example and are not quoted but listed for pricing purposes.
- Queens Room
The Mary Curry Tressider Room as it is known has a king bed,
large bath, TV-VCR and large closet. This room is a favorite of many for its excellent view of
Yosemite Falls.
- The Underwood
Named after the Awhahnee architect. It has a king bed, TV
and an excellent view of Yosemite Falls and the West Valley.
This room is booked in conjunction with "The Donald Tressider
Library."
- The Donald Tressider Library
- booked as part of the Underwood.
A large sitting room with a fireplace, sofas, chairs, and
dining table. Floor to ceiling library shelves, dark wood
panelling very comfortable furniture to have a warm coziness
to it. It is booked in conjunction with "The Underwood
Room."
- The Sunroom
This Parlor adjoins to room 601 and creates a very nice small
suite. With floor to ceiling windows facing Half Dome and
Glacier Point that give the room its name. With sofas,
chairs, table and a desk, the decor is understated elegance.
Comes with a double sofa bed.
