Royal Grove Hotel

An old standby in this part of town, this is one of the prettiest of Waikiki's small hotels. The six-story pink concrete building is about 200 yards from the famous Waikiki Beach. But if you're really lazy, you can dunk in the pool right on the grounds. 

All studios have kitchenettes, and efficiencies have private lanais. All are nicely furnished and comfortable and have a tub and shower facilities, and the kitchens are all electric. It's best to ask for a standard air-conditioned room. 

Amenities and dining facilities include round-the-clock desk service; daily, twice-weekly or weekly cleaning service; Ruffage Natural Foods for health-food supplies and sandwiches, a Japanese Sushi Bar for outstanding sushi specialties, and Me's BBQ offering Korean plate-lunch specials. All restaurants are open daily.

Over the years, readers have continued to write to comment on the friendliness of the owners, the Fong Family, who frequently have potluck dinners and parties so that everyone can get acquainted. Mr. Fong also brings along his Ukulele and sings well known Hawaiian melodies at each gathering. Lots of Aloha for a small price at this one.

The Fongs also rent out a number of units at the lovely Pacific Monarch Hotel and Condominium, just across the street. These are comfortable, spacious quarters wonderfully set up for family living.
