What every traveler should
know about baggage!
We're proud of the fact that 99.5% of all
baggage goes through our system without a hitch. But we know that
statistics don't matter when something happens to your
bag.
At Aloha Airlines, we
care about our customers and believe that your trip should be a pleasant
experience from beginning to end. So to answer your baggage questions,
we've designed this easy-to-read guide. What
should I do if my baggage is damaged?
Report the problem immediately (within
four hours of your arrival) to the Baggage Office so that we can assess
the damage. It is best to do this before you leave the airport, but if you
discover a problem after you have left, leave your baggage intact and call
the Baggage Office at that airport. And make sure you have your baggage
claim tickets!
Tips & Reminders:
- Keep all baggage claim tickets and flight
receipts.
- Inspect your baggage before you leave the
airport.
- Aloha is not liable for damages caused by
broken items in your bag.
What will you do
with my damaged bag?
First, we will try to repair any damage. Aloha
baggage repair experts are available on every island. If the damage is
beyond repair, we will offer you a bag of comparable quality as a
replacement. If we are not able to provide a satisfactory
replacement, Aloha's maximum liability is the actual value of the damaged
bag and contents or $1,250, whichever is less.
Some items exempt from this liability. What
should I do if my bag is missing?
Report the problem immediately (within four hours
of your arrival) to the Baggage Office. Since all bags are required to
have a name and address on the outside, we should be able to locate your
missing bag. You are required to report this loss before
you leave the airport. Be ready with your baggage claim tickets and flight
receipts. What
happens if my bag is never found?
Most of the time, the missing baggage will arrive
a little later on a separate flight.* If the baggage does not turn
up, Aloha's maximum liability is the actual value of the missing bag and
contents or $1,250 whichever is less. Some items
exempt from this liability are listed here. If your
origin and/or destination are outside the U.S., different restrictions
apply.
Tips & Reminders:
- Remember to label your bags with your name and
complete address. It's required!
- Keep your name, complete address and phone
number inside your bag too.
- Keep all baggage claim tickets and flight
receipts.
- Report your missing bag before you
leave the airport.
- If your bag was delayed, you may be eligible
for compensation. See our Baggage Office for details.
NOTE: If your bag was delayed, you
may be eligible for compensation. Contact the Baggage Office for
details.
What may I carry on?
You may carry on one(1) item that fits within the
dimensions of 8"x14"x22" and weighs no more than 20 lbs. On
occasion (especially on full flights), you may be asked to check in your
carry on. Your best bet is to make sure your bag is safely within the size
and weight limits.
Tips & Reminders:
- Make sure your bags fit within the size and
weight limits. Bag size testers are located at the check-in counters
and gates.
- Keep particularly valuable or important items
in your carry on. (e.g. medications, jewelry, cash)
- Attach your complete address and telephone
number to your carry on.
What
can't I carry on?
- Boogie Boards
- Coolers with ice
- Guitars in hard-sided cases
- Skateboards
- Strollers
NOTE: Not all prohibited carry on items are
listed. Ask your Aloha agent if you are not sure or see the "Conditions
of Contract" for a complete list. If any of these prohibited items
are placed in checked baggage, you may be asked to sign a Limited
Release.
What is
a Limited Release?
By signing a Limited Release you are
acknowledging that you are choosing to ship the item although Aloha does
not consider it to be adequately protected for checked baggage travel. It
is being transported at your own risk and Aloha is not liable for damages.
Items Exempt From Liability:
- Slightly scratched or scuffed items
- Perishable items
- Liquids and damage caused by liquids spilled
inside bags.
- Irreplaceable items are listed. See the "Conditions
of Contract" for a complete list, located at any Aloha Airlines
ticket counter.
NOTE: Some items are PROHIBITED from being
checked baggage. Check with an Aloha agent for more information.
For what types of baggage do I
have to pay extra?
- Animals in checked cages
- Bicycles
- Surfboards and windsurfboards
- Any special baggage that requires extra
attention or space
Not all special baggage items are listed. Ask
your Aloha agent if you are not sure or see the "Conditions of
Contract" for a complete list. A handling fee is charged
because special baggage are not "stackable" and need special
attention as well as more space. Remember, this charge covers the extra
handling only and does not affect Aloha's liability coverage or baggage
exemptions. See your Aloha agent for specific costs. All special baggage
travel on a "space available" basis.
You may want to purchase an extra seat for that
special baggage. We offer special reduced fares and some size restrictions
do still apply.
Check with your Aloha agent for details and cost
when you make your reservation.
What about equipment for the physically
disabled?
Aloha will gladly accommodate equipment and
seating for the physically disabled. Contact our Reservations Office for
more information.
Can I declare a higher value for my
baggage?
Yes, but it costs more. Your maximum coverage is
automatically at $1,250 per passenger. You may purchase up to twice the
amount of coverage (2 x $1,250 = $2,500) at the time of check in. Remember,
this only extends Aloha's maximum liability, so exempt items
are not included! Particularly valuable or important items
should be kept in your carry on. See your Aloha agent for specific costs.
Wheelchairs and other mobility aids qualify for double coverage ($2,500)
at no additional cost. You may insure your baggage through an outside
insurance company or possibly, through your credit card company (if you
bought your tickets with the card). Contact them for more information.
How can I keep my baggage from
getting damaged?
Accidents can't always be avoided, but using
common sense when packing should help.Tips & Reminders:
- Don't overstuff!
- Make sure the container is securely closed and
reinforced if necessary.
- Make sure nothing protrudes.
- Remove all detachable items.
- Carry on especially fragile or valuable items.
- Ship large, fragile, or restricted items
separately on Aloha Airline's cargo service.
If I have a problem with my
flight, whom can I call or see?
Customers can ask for a Complaint Resolution
Official at any of our airport counters or at our Reservations Office.
