1. Where is
Kona, Hawaii?
Kona, better known as Kailua-Kona, is on the "Big
Island Hawaii" of Hawaii - the largest island in the Hawaiian
chain. Yes, we are the 50th state of the United States.
2. What airlines service Kailua-Kona?
United Airlines flies directly into Kailua-Kona.
Major airlines fly into Honolulu with connections every hour on Hawaiian
Air or Aloha Air to the "Big Island." Flying time from
Honolulu to Kailua-Kona is approximately 40 minutes.
3. Which airport serves Kailua-Kona?
Keahole Airport, seven miles north of
Kailua-Kona.
4. How do I meet the Kona Aggressor II on
the day of departure?
You will be greeted and transported from the
airport by one of our friendly uniformed crew members if you arrive on
the day of departure. If you arrive earlier than Saturday, the crew will
meet you at your hotel on Saturday. Boarding time is after 2:00 PM
Saturday.
5. Where does the Kona Aggressor II dock?
The Kona Aggressor II docks at the Kailua Bay
pier near the King Kam Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
6. Tell me about the diving on the
"Big Island."
There are 176 species of tropical fish found
only in Hawaiian waters and 600 species all together. You'll see shark
nose blennys, harlequin shrimp, frogfish, lionfish and nudibranchs.
Manta Ray Village is one of Kona's most famous dive spots. Imagine a
night dive with not one but several mantas with wing spans ranging from
8 -16 feet.
7. Where does the Kona Aggressor II dive?
The Kona Aggressor II covers 85 miles of
coastline from Upolu on the North Kohala Coast to South Point (the
southern most point in the U.S.) in the rugged Ka'u district.
8. How many days of diving are included in
my charter?
The cruise is 7 days with 5 1/2 days of diving.
You will depart from the port on Saturday evening after dinner. Diving
begins Sunday morning and the Kona Aggressor II returns to port on
Friday at 2:30 PM.
9. What is the water visibility and
temperature?
Water visibility ranges from 75 - 125 feet.
water temperature off the "Big Island" ranges between 74 and
82 degrees F. We recommend an 1/8" or 3mm wetsuit and during the
winter months (Nov to May) a 5-7mm wet suit and light hood may be
comfortable. Hoods are often appreciated during the night dives.
10. What type of topography can I expect to
see in Kona?
The Kona coast has many different bays, coves,
lagoons, lava flows, black sand, white sand and green sand beaches,
dramatic cliffs plus unique lava formations.
11. What is planned Friday afternoon and
evening after we return to port?
This is an opportunity to shop, sight-see or
simply relax. The Kona Aggressor II hosts a cocktail party Friday
evening, since dinner is not served on board. We can recommend a local
restaurant and/or luau and the crew will provide transportation.
12. When is check out time on the vessel?
Check out time is between 7:00 and 8:00 AM on
Saturday.
13. Where is the nearest recompression
chamber?
The nearest chamber is in Honolulu on the
island of Oahu.
