The
information contained on this page highlights the terms and conditions
which pertain to Dollar’s rental car product. Your exact terms and
conditions might vary from the one’s listed here. For your exact terms
and conditions, please refer to your signed car rental contract.
A. LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER (LDW).
Renters may purchase from Dollar a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) for a daily
fee. Renters who purchase LDW obtain the agreement of Dollar that it will
not hold the renter responsible for any loss damage to the vehicle. Failure to purchase LDW will result in the renter being fully liable to
Dollar up to the full value of the vehicle. Dollar does not accept as a
substitute for its LDW any similar product sold or purchased elsewhere.
Operator shall make full disclosure in all promotional materials with
respect to LDW and the cost of obtaining LDW. LDW can be purchased upon
commencement of the rental from $18.99-$19.99 per day (currently $9.00 per
day in California).
The purchase of LDW is optional. In the event the
Tour Operator elects to issue vouchers which are LDW inclusive in
accordance with the pricing set forth in Schedule A, the portion of the
inclusive price which shall be deemed paid for the purchase of LDW shall
not exceed the counter retail price or the maximum price allowed by state
authorities at any location.
B. REQUIRED DEPOSITS. There are no
substitutes for Dollar’s LDW. Any renter who does not purchase LDW is
responsible for any and all damages to the rental car regardless of fault.
Any client wishing to decline the LDW will be subject to a credit
worthiness test and must possess a major credit card with a minimum of
$1,500.00 line of available credit.
Clients who do not possess a major credit card
may be asked to leave a deposit in cash amounting to the approximate cost
of incidentals plus $100.00 per week.
In Nashville a major credit card is required.
C. FUEL POLICY. Dollar offers all of its
cars to clients full of petrol and a charge is made upon commencement of
the rental based on the average full service pump price for mid-grade gas
as stated by the American Automobile Association. The client is further
instructed that they should return the vehicle as empty as possible.
D. ADDITIONAL DRIVER CHARGE. Each Dollar
vehicle is rented to a specific, single driver. The renter may add extra
permitted drivers in accordance with Dollar’s standard policies at a
supplemental charge per extra permitted driver (currently $6.00 per day
per extra permitted driver) where applicable, excluding California.
E. STATE AND LOCAL TAXES AND FEES. Renters
shall be required to pay at the time of rental all applicable State and
local taxes and the following fees.
FLORIDA STATE SURCHARGE: Currently $2.05 per day
in Florida, $2.00 of which is state revenue and $0.05 of which applies to
a fund for tire and battery recycling.
CALIFORNIA LICENSE FEE: Approximately $0.75 per
day (Economy/Compact), $1.00 per day (ICAR), $1.25 per day (FCAR/PCAR/CV),
$1.50 per day (MVAR, 8 Pax Van, 15 Pax Van, Sport Utility Vehicle); $1.75
per day (LCAR).
AIRPORT OPERATING FEE: Airport Operating Fees of
up to 10% will be charged unless prohibited by law. This fee, which is to
assist in covering all or part of the average airport concession fees plus
the additional cost of doing business at the airport, is approximately
$3.00-$3.50 per car per day in Florida depending on the size of the
vehicle. Airport Operating Fees apply not only on the prepaid rental, but
also on any and all options purchased locally at the rental counter. There
are currently no Airport Operating Fees charged in California.
SALES TAX: Sales tax varies across the U.S.A.
from approximately 5%-15%. In Florida only, the Handling Fee of
$3.00-$3.50 per car per day includes the State Sales Tax of 6%-7%.
Additional Sales Tax in Florida of 6%-7% would only apply on additional
taxable items purchased locally at the rental counter.
PREPAID TAXES & FEES: The rates quoted which
include taxes also include all airport fees, all state sales taxes, all
state surcharges, all handling fees and all license fees, but would not
include sales tax and airport fees on options purchased locally by the
client at the rental counter.
F. UNDERAGE DRIVER FEE: All permitted
drivers must be in possession of a valid drivers license issued by their
respective jurisdictions of residence and must be at least twenty-one (21)
years of age. Drivers that are at least twenty-one (21) years of age, but
less than twenty-five (25) years of age will be subject to a supplemental
charge (currently $20.00 per day; New York City $35.00 per day) unless
prohibited by State law.
G. CHILD SEATS. Child seats are required
by law in some States. The rental of a child seat is subject to a
supplemental charge (currently $5.00 per day) where available.
H. MILEAGE CHARGE. Unlimited mileage
applies to all vehicle rentals.
I. CLASS OF VEHICLE. See Schedule B.
J. DRIVING RESTRICTIONS. In most cases,
vehicles can be driven in any State in the continental USA and from some
cities can be taken to Canada. See Paragraph K below regarding Dollar’s
one way rental and drop off policy. Vehicles may not be taken into Mexico.
In Alaska, driving on unpaved roads is not
permitted under any circumstance. Roads where travel is prohibited
include, but are not limited to, Dalton, Steese, Dempster, Elliot, Denali
and Taylor Highways. Travel on these roads, unpaved roads or poorly
maintained roads will void the LDW. Travel into Canada from Alaska is not
permitted.
K. ONE WAY AND DROP OFF POLICY. One-way
rentals are available at no charge within Florida and within California.
Please refer to the Drop Grid for any inquiries on other drops.
L. INSURANCE. The vehicle rental rate
includes third party liability cover as per the minimum required under
law.
SUPPLEMENTAL LIABILITY INSURANCE (SLI): In
Florida and most other cities, Dollar offers its renters the option of
purchasing supplemental liability third party insurance (SLI), which would
increase the third party coverage up to $1 million dollars. Supplemental
Liability Insurance may be purchased at $14.99 per day (where available).
The tour operator agrees to promote only Dollar’s SLI in their brochure
and not to promote the sale of any similar “top up insurance” type
coverage.
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST PROTECTION (UMP):
In Florida and some other cities, Dollar offers an
Uninsured/Underinsured/Hit-and-Run Motorist Protection (UMP) that provides
the renter and family members traveling together in the rented vehicle
with up to $1,000,000 of non-stacked coverage for bodily injury sustained
while driving the rental car, and caused by another driver who has no
insurance, minimal insurance, or is a hit-and-run driver. UMP is sold at
$5.99 per day, where available.
PERSONAL ACCIDENT AND EFFECTS COVERAGE
PAI/PEC(PAE): In Florida and most other cities, Dollar offers a PAE
package with a maximum benefit payable for Accidental Death and
Dismemberment of $50,000 and Accident Medical Benefits limited to $2,500,
and personal effects coverage in the amount of $500 per person not to
exceed $1,500 per any one claim. The package is sold at $5.99-$6.99 per
day, where available.
EMERGENCY SICKNESS PROTECTION (ESP): In Florida
and some other cities, Dollar offers Emergency Sickness Protection (ESP)
to renters and their family members who possess valid non-U.S. passports.
ESP provides coverage for up to $10,000 per person for certain sicknesses
that may occur during the rental period. ESP is sold at $3.99 per day,
where available.
M. UPGRADES. Renters may upgrade to
another class of vehicle at the time of rental. Upgrades are based on
supply and demand and renter shall pay directly to Dollar all charges for
such upgrades. Local Tour Representatives shall not discourage customers
from upgrading.
N. RESERVATIONS. All reservations should
be faxed to Dollar in accordance with Paragraph 5 of the contract. Any
last minute changes should be faxed within twenty-four (24) hours of the
renters scheduled arrival to:
Attn: Reservation Department
Fax Number (813) 673-3300
Telephone Number (813) 673-3464
P. SURCHARGE PERIOD. Any rental commencing
within the surcharge period as defined in Schedule B is subject in its
entirety to the rental surcharge irrespective of the duration of the
rental.
Q. OTHER SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
For the quoted rental rates (Schedule B) to apply, Operator must promote
and recommend exclusively through its brochures and local representatives
the sale of LDW and SLI (top up) insurance. Operator will not promote or
feature any similar product sold through any other venue. Operator will
not include in its package a product similar to LDW or SLI that the
operator purchases through another venue.
In the event of enactment of any new Federal,
State or local laws in the United States or elsewhere which restrict or
prohibit any of the terms or conditions of rental, the prices quoted will
be subject to adjustment to the extent necessary to compensate for any
such restrictions or prohibitions. Specifically, if any laws change that
affect LDW, then a charge of $133.00 per week, or $18.99 per day, will be
paid by the client or Operator directly to the car rental company in
exchange for Dollar not holding the renter liable for any such damage to
the vehicle.
For this and other unknowns, all brochure copies
must include the phrase: “Cost and conditions of all options are subject
to change without notice.” Hawaii Consumer Affairs
