| The
Polynesian Cultural Center has been Hawaii's top paid visitor attraction since 1977, according
to annual state government surveys. Almost one million people visit the
Center annually, and over 28 million visitors have arrived since its
opening in 1963. And ask around and you will find out that for many
visitors to Hawaii this was a highlight of their Holiday.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is located in
Laie on the scenic north shore of Oahu and is open from 12:30 PM to 9:30
PM daily except Sundays. For the best PCC experience, arrive before 1:30
PM. The seven cultural villages close at 6:00 pm.
The Center as a nonprofit entity dedicated to helping preserve
the cultural heritage of Polynesia while providing jobs and scholarships
for hundreds of students at the adjoining Brigham Young University-Hawaii
campus.
Horizons! - The Night Show!
"Horizons," the largest Polynesian revue of song and dance in
the world, features over 100 native performers from all corners of the
Pacific. Dressed in native attire, Polynesians share their histories,
traditions and spirit in the same way their ancestors did for centuries.
A Celebration of Polynesian
Discovery" -- a 90-minute evening extravaganza -- is the highlight of
the Polynesian Cultural Center experience. This famous production is the
largest Polynesian revue in the world. The Center also stages daily its "Pageant of the Long
Canoes," the Ali'i Luau dinner buffet, complete with imu (underground
pit made to roast pigs) ceremony and "hapa-haole" entertainment,
and other special events.
The Center's spectacular evening show,
"Horizons! A Celebration of Polynesian Discovery," is staged in
the Pacific Theater, a 2,770-seat amphitheater with fiery volcanoes,
brilliant fountains, multilevel stages and numerous special effects. The
Pacific Theater has state of the art electronic lighting and sound
equipment.
Special Features
The Polynesian Cultural Center features seven Polynesian
"islands" in a beautifully landscaped, 42-acre setting
representing Samoa, New Zealand (Aotearoa), Fiji, Hawaii, Tahiti, the
Marquesas and Tonga. A man-made freshwater lagoon winds throughout the
Center.
The Center's Gateway Restaurant comfortably
seats about 1,000 diners and is the largest restaurant in the South
Pacific. separate fine-dining buffet restaurant, the Ambassador, is also
available for guests that purchase the all-inclusive, upscale Ambassador
Passport package.
The Center's exciting Rainbows of Polynesia
Canoe Pageant show is performed daily on the main lagoon. This waterborne
introduction to the multitalented youth of Polynesia gives a glimpse of
the beautiful colors and personalities of the islands with original music,
narration, songs and dances.
In its presentation of Polynesian cultures, the
Cultural Center highlights the dignity of the Polynesian people; their
great sense of adventure and discovery; the prestige of their cultures;
and their uniqueness and ethnicity.
Every visitor will experience an extensive
Polynesian tour which would otherwise cost upwards of $10,000 were they to
actually travel to these far flung islands. The Polynesian Cultural Center
is the only place in the world guests can experience all seven Polynesian
islands for as little as $39 in one day.
The Center's Treasures of Polynesia plaza sells
a wide range of gifts, souvenirs, and authentic Polynesian handicrafts
made at the Center or imported from the South Pacific.
Never a dull spear, or moment
Enjoy a restful canoe ride through the island villages in between your
other activities at the Center. Dine on American or Pacific fare in one of
three restaurants or our native snack bar when your stomach starts to
growl. Pause to enjoy the manicured gardens and fragrant flowers. And take
in the colorful canoe pageant that occurs each afternoon on our tropical
lagoon. A free guided tour of Laie is also available. The motorized
trolley explores interesting local venues, including the dramatic Hawaii
temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the nearby
BYU-Hawaii campus.

Several different shopping galleries afford you the opportunity to
purchase native handicrafts and carvings, plus Polynesian jewelry,
apparel, art, videos, CD's and more. "Treasures of Polynesia,"
the Center's IMAX Polynesia Gallery and "Shop Polynesia" offer

Academy-Award nominated IMAXTM Film "IMAX Polynesia" was Hawaii's first
IMAX theater and features two films: the Center's own production,
"Polynesian Odyssey," filmed on location throughout Hawaii and
the South Pacific. "The Living Sea," .
"The Living Sea," a breathtaking ride across
and under the ocean with music by Grammy-winning Sting and narration by
Meryl Streep, is shown several times daily on the Center's 65-foot tall IMAXTM
screen. Also shown is "Polynesisn Odyssey," a dramatic
re-creation of the discovery of the islands of Polynesia. |
