| POIPU,
Kauai’s principal beach resort, was hard hit by Iniki, but is now
finally back to normal, offering great surfing and snorkeling. Its finest hotel
is the sumptuous Hyatt Regency, while there are many other resorts
that quotes much lower prices for condos in the area.
The
best restaurants are in the Poipu Shopping Village mall. Roy’s Poipu
Bar & Grill (tel 808/742-5000) is a very fashionable, dinner-only
place specializing in what celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi calls
“Euro-Asian” cuisine, while La Griglia (tel 808/742-2147)
serves Italian snacks, pizzas and coffees in the open air.
