Hotel in French Polynesia (Bora Bora)

Bora Bora Lagoon Resort (DL)

Ia Orana! Welcome to the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. If Mother Nature has amply blessed the Polynesian islands, she has been particularly generous with our private isle, Motu Toopua. It is here, in the middle of Bora Bora's majestic lagoon, that we have created the ultimate Polynesian destination.

All of Mother Nature's gifts, however, are not enough to create the perfect vacation experience. This is why we are dedicated to providing each guest with a warm welcome. We aim to perfect every aspect of your stay, from the dining experience to the activities we offer. Lagoon adventures, scarlet sunsets and Tahitian feasts await you at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in luxurious, over-water beach and garden bungalows, some with airconditioning. Each has a sitting area with a six-foot couch, furnished in authentic local style.

Bedrooms feature king-size or twin beds, as well as a private sun deck, separate bath and shower, telephone, safe, minibar, colour TV and in-room movies. Normal voltage is 220 V but 110 V is available.

Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is a different world, a tropical fantasy of picturesque thatched buildings. Inside, oiled yucca woods, floor-to-ceiling louvres and timber blinds provide a perfect blend of Polynesian charm and modern comfort.

Room description

The bungalows are quite large, averaging 580 square feet. Each is built in fare style with pandanus roof, bamboo walls and polished yucca wood floors. Handsome, hand-carved, heavy, base beams dress the exterior of each bungalow. They seem to float below the bamboo walls and no two are alike.

Each bungalow is also designed with an open side, created by panels of wooden louvres, which affords access to the prevailing breezes and filtered light. The bungalow's 'blind side', a textured bamboo wall, is the bed wall. Sliding glass doors lead to a private terrace furnished with two teak chaise longues and accompanying cocktail tables. A ladder leads from each over-water terrace directly into the waters below.

The bungalow's interior design reflects the intention to create a modern, tropical environment which is strongly residential in feel. This is especially evident in the sitting area, which has an interesting handmade desk and comfortable rattan easy chair with accompanying hassock. Over-water bungalows have glass-topped coffee tables offering easy access for fish feeding, and each is equipped with an underwater spotlight which draws fish to the area directly below the viewing glass.

A central closet area marks the passage between the living and sleeping areas and the bath. Along with ample hanging space and a built-in drawer unit, it also houses a refrigerator, minibar, coffee service and personal safe. The television, another reminder of civilisation which many guests choose to ignore, is discreetly installed in an armoire and mostly used to show videos for those relaxing.

The bathroom is airy, fresh looking and oversized, with separate tiled shower and tub as well as a separate w/c telephone. A long, polished wood counter holds double sinks, each of which has a mirror framed in carved coconut husk. A built-in hairdryer saves electrical conversion dilemmas.

Suite description

There are two one-bedroom suites. One is located on the main beach and has a private Jacuzzi attached (Suite 200). The other suite is located on the other side of the Hotel in the garden (Suite 100). The suites are ideal for a family with small children, as they can be accommodated under one roof, yet the parents can still have some privacy.

Transfers

Guests are greeted by a hostess from the hotel at arrival at Bora Bora, given floral leis, and then they board our private launch for the 20-minute boat ride to Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. We have two launches - 'Tetianui' and 'Teaonui' - accommodating 35 and 12 people respectively.

Check-in formalities are completed on board, and guests are provided with cold towels. On arrival at the resort, an ice-cold coconut juice is given as a welcome drink before the guests are escorted to their bungalows.

Dining and Entertainment

At the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, dining is always a special experience. With stunning views of Mount Otemanu, the Otemanu Restaurant serves exquisite Polynesian specialities such as poisson cru - fresh fish marinated in coconut milk. The Café Fare serves breakfast, lunch and dinner alongside the pool. The Rotopo Bar serves drinks beside the pool during the day.

Otemanu: Poised over the lagoon, with breathtaking views on every side, our fine-dining room features continental cuisine with a distinctive Polynesian influence. A highlight is the delectable, fresh seafood.

Café Fare: Surrounded by tropical gardens, and guarded by an ancient tiki, this exotic, outdoor café has an informal, poolside atmosphere. Let the fresh air enhance your appetite!

The Hiro Bar: The Hiro Bar is open only in the evenings from 18:00 and comfortably seats 50 people. It is situated perpendicularly to the Otemanu Restaurant and opens to the lagoon and to the pool and gardens. Seating ranges from bar stools to long sofas and comfortable wicker salon chairs, covered in predominantly blue-green fabric to capture the colours of the pool and the lagoon. Abundant loose cushions in strong contrasting accents of orange, blue and yellow recall the tropical sun.

The lighting is intriguing - a combination of bamboo downlights, copper post lights and tall, wicker floor lamps near the couches, all designed to enhance the residential feel of the resort's public spaces.

The Rotopa Bar: The bar is open during the day and services the pool area and both beaches until 18:00 when the Hiro Bar opens. Built as a traditional fare with pandanus roof and fringes, this quaint bar overlooks the pool and is itself a shady oasis from the heat of the sun.

The interior of this fare has been decorated with examples of traditional Polynesian dance costumes - elaborately beaded grass skirts and feathered headdresses.

Our highly popular Theme Night Buffets allow you to indulge in the exotic and romantic pleasure of dining under the stars. Most often accompanied by spectacular local entertainment, these occasions are not to be missed.

The Tahitian Buffet and Show: The buffet and show take place every Thursday night. If the weather permits, guests are seated outdoors on the terrace of the Otemanu Restaurant, with a fantastic view of Otemanu Mountain. The terrace is semi-circular in shape, with several tiers that descend to a firelit ring of sand where the Tahitian show takes place.

The show is an hour-long spectacle of exquisite singing and exotic, rhythmic dances. These include the tamure, a very fast dance accompanied by frenzied drum beats, and the aparima, where the women perform soft, gentle hand-dances, each movement telling a story. The finale is a terrifying and magnificent fire-dance, fearlessly performed by a male trio effortlessly wielding huge wheels of fire. A full orchestra playing traditional Tahitian musical instruments accompanies the dancers and singers.

The buffet features some typical Tahitian dishes, local produce and, of course, fish is generously featured. The buffet is displayed in individual fares decorated with palm leaves and flowers, with at least three chefs in attendance to grill the guests' choice 'à la minute' and to explain the various dishes.

Seafood Buffet: The Seafood Buffet takes place every Saturday night in the Otemanu Restaurant with basically the same set up as the Tahitian night. The emphasis is obviously on seafood, and to this end we import fresh fish every week from around the world; delicacies such as oysters, lobsters, prawns, crab, salmon, etc plus, of course, the local catch of the day from our lagoon. Japanese sushi and sashimi are prepared by our Japanese chef at the buffet. The buffet display features huge whole fish, and the dessert is usually a theme of white and dark chocolate.

Entertainment is provided in the form of a Tahitian dance band. The evening is also very popular with the local community of Bora Bora.

Motu Picnic: If you have ever dreamed of picnicking on a deserted island, the turquoise-blue horizon all to yourselves and sand soft as talcum powder beneath your toes, then this is your dream come true. For that extra touch of perfection, we will provide you with your own personal captain and chef, for water skiing should you wish, or snorkeling in the fabulous coral gardens, to grill and serve the lunch of your choice, and to ensure that your champagne glasses are always full!

Manui! Cheers!

The picnic is booked for one couple/family per day, so it is very exclusive. The island where the picnic takes place is on the opposite side of the mountain to the Hotel and the excursion leaves Bora Bora Lagoon Resort by motor boat at approximately 10:30 for the 20 minute ride to the Motu. Once there, guests are invited to explore the Motu, swim, snorkel or simply relax under the palm trees or in the sun with a drink nearby.

Meanwhile, the picnic table is set up in the knee-deep, warm water, a large parasol overhead and set with white tablecloth, fine china, silver and crystal glasses. An ice bucket is ready with the guests' choice of white or red wine and champagne, water , soft drinks and beer.

Canoe Breakfast

The Canoe Breakfast is an alternative kind of room service; the breakfast is prepared to order, and then loaded into a local outrigger canoe which is decorated with flowers, and then rowed over to the bungalow by one of our Tahitian staff. The breakfast tray is then delivered up to the bungalow via the sun deck and steps and set up either in the room or on the balcony as the guest wishes.

Facilities and Activities

At Bora Bora Lagoon Resort the living is always easy. For those whose idea of heaven is just to be able to relax and wind down, the beach and the pool are irresistible. Palms sway overhead, cooling drinks are always on hand, and when the sun sets, evenings can be whiled away in the Hiro Lounge, where local performers often entertain. The Hiro Lounge opens from 06:00 pm.

At the same time, the more actively inclined can choose from a wide variety of sports and activities, from tennis, volleyball, snorkelling, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing, to outrigger canoeing, windsurfing and sailing. All kinds of outings are also available, including glass-bottom boat trips, guided 4x4 excursions around Bora Bora, catamaran cruises and shark-feeding trips.

We have included French Polynesia in some of our specials to the South Pacific, eg. our Kontiki Voyage and South Sea Dream Voyage. Another option is to create your own package to French Polynesia by utilizing the seperate travel components, like hotels, flights and excursions on the islands.

For a legal wedding the legal requires in French Polynesia that you remain at least 30 days in French Polynesia before the marriage. In practice this means you may only have a ceremonial wedding in French Polynesia (see also Tiki Village).
