The
high-vaulted lobby of The Sheraton Royal Denarau Resort creates a feeling
reminiscent of standing in an ancient Fijian temple. This sense of being
at one with the island's lifestyle and culture is further enhanced
throughout the hotel with traditional tapestries and Melanesian artefacts
that adorn the walls and blend with the more modern facilities like the
art gallery, quality shops, and areas for relaxation and entertainment.
Surrounded
by tropical gardens and lawns, the hotel has recently been refurbished. It
now stands in a class of its own which is reflected in the spaciousness,
decor and luxury appointments of the 284 air-conditioned individual rooms
and suites, each with its own private balcony.
Rooms are furnished in
Fijian style with tapa-cloth bed canopies, rattan furniture and feature
electronic safe, telephones, hairdryer, refrigerator, and tea and coffee
making facilities. Suites are luxuriously appointed with unique artefacts
and offer a separate dining area and guest bathroom.

The
hotel boasts four restaurants and a poolside barbeque. For intimate dining
surrounded by tropical gardens, the Garden View restaurant is ideal, while
the Ocean Terrace, overlooking the pool with Nadi Bay in the background,
offers a fine international menu as well as Asian and Pacific Rim
specialties including local delights.
The
Steakhouse, on the beachfront, caters for lunch and dinner with a robust menu of
grills plus a self-serve salad bar. For casual dining and snacks, The Terrace
and the poolside barbeque are perfect spots and the swim-up Pool Bar is an
obvious favourite during the day. There is nightly entertainment in the Meke
Lounge, while the Garden Court Bar has a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
As
expected from a first class resort, the list of activities is almost endless. On
offer are parasailing, waterskiing, jet skiing, game fishing, snorkelling, table
tennis, pitch and putt golf, lawn bowls, archery, and volleyball. Scuba diving
enthusiasts are also catered for with beginners having their first lesson in the
resort pool.
Day
trips to tiny islands, sunset cruises, and for the truly adventurous, treks into
the hinterland on foot or by 4-wheel drive vehicles can also be arranged by the
tour desk. But perhaps a picnic lunch by a remote waterfall, or a romantic
helicopter tour of the island is more to your liking.
Children
are catered for with special meal selections, an exciting activities programme
and baby-sitting services, as well as a children's pool and playground.
Full
business services are available. Conferences and other functions such as
weddings, can utilise the ballroom facility, the Senitoa - a large private bure,
and the Coco Palms - a Fijian amphitheatre of four adjoining open-air bures
surrounded by tropical gardens.
