Together with the island's unmatched beauty lies the beauty of Fiji's people who are some of the most delightful in the world.Garden Island Resort is an intimate oceanside property (refurbished in 1998) and with its in-house dive centre, is well-known as a dive destination. However, the unique cultural and geographical environment of Taveuni offers a vast variety of other interesting activities which can be taken advantage of during your stay. The Resort provides a quiet and relaxing island lifestyle in tropical surroundings with pleasant, attentive staff and fine international cuisine.
Activities offered from the resort include:
- A 10 minute walk from the resort has you standing on the International Date Line (180 degree meridian). This is where you can stand with one foot in today and the other in tomorrow.
- A 25 minute walk from the Resort is Waitavela natural waterslide and river.
- Take a short trip to Korolevu Island for snorkelling or make a longer trip to the famous Rainbow Reef.
- After a 25 minute taxi ride, you will arrive at the Taveuni Estates where there is a 9 hole golf course, tennis and lawn bowls.
- The Sunday morning service at Wairiki Mission is a 25 minute walk from the Resort which offers wonderful singing in an inspiring setting.
Other activities provided at the resort include canoe paddling and kayaks, walking and hiking, horse-riding, deep-sea fishing for tuna, sailfish & Wahoo, bird-watching, volleyball, visits to local Villages, reading, resting and relaxation or simply lazing around the new pool/patio area.
Taveuni is world famous for its diving and is home to the acclaimed Rainbow Reef. Here you will find reefs ablaze with every color of the rainbow, as multi-hued soft corals and fish feed in the tidal currents of the Somosomo Strait. Add to this clear, warm tropical waters and you have truly world-class diving. Aqua-Trek Taveuni, the Resort's Professional Padi Dive Centre offers daily excursions to this world class dive area aboard their two 30 foot custom built dive vessels. There are numerous sites to choose from including the famous "The Great White Wall". Nitrox facilities are available at the Resort together with one site E-6 processing.
Garden Island Resort features 28 comfortable double rooms, all ocean front, with full bathroom and refrigerator in each room. The rooms are arranged in a low, two storey building running along the waterfront, all with their own private balcony or deck area with marvelous sunset views over the Somosomo strait. They sleep 1, 2, or 3 persons and there are also two dormitory rooms that sleep 4 people.
There is a full service restaurant with an "all-in" meal plan available.
