Art Gallery of Western Australia
At Western Australia's principal public art gallery, visitors can see an
eminently browsable collection of Australian and international paintings,
sculpture, prints, craft and decorative arts. The collection of Aboriginal
art is one of the finest in Australia. Complementing the permanent
collections are exhibitions from interstate and overseas. Free guided
tours are available - phone for times. A wide range of art books, cards,
prints and gifts can be purchased at the gallery shop. Before or after
visiting the gallery, enjoy a cappuccino or light meal at Cafe Vitesse
while you watch the world go by.

Housed in the old Perth Boys School in the Cultural Centre precinct, the
Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) is one of Australia's leading
contemporary arts organisations. PICA's focus is at the cutting edge of
the investigative, exploratory and experimental. Entry is always free to
the exhibiting galleries.

- Bridge Gallery at The Maltings
A hip and happening warehouse gallery on the edge of Northbridge showing
work by graduate students and emerging artists in a space that's inviting,
casual and non-intimidating. Changing exhibitions across different themes
and media from painting to performance art. Perth Artists' Club meets
Friday nights 7pm to 12 midnight for live music, comedy and performance. (Licensed

- Craftwest Centre for Contemporary Craft
Located in the old Perth Railway Station, this centre includes a gallery
and retail outlet for fine contemporary craft by leading Western
Australian crafts people. It offers a wide range of reasonably priced
gifts and souvenirs suitable for all ages including ceramics, glass,
jewellery, textiles and fibre, metalcraft, woodwork, cards and paper.

An Aboriginal art gallery specialising in the art of Western Australia's
indigenous people. Every piece is accompanied by a certificate of
authenticity. The range includes books, hand-carved emu eggs and boab
nuts, didgeridoos, music, hand-carved animals, artifacts, jewellery, cards
and paintings. Visitors can watch the current artist in residence at work.

Aboriginal art centres. Upstairs, traditional and contemporary art is
shown in the Dreamtime gallery, complemented by hand-woven Aboriginal
design carpets. The downstairs emporium offers a range of gifts from
authentic artifacts and weapons to silk scarves, jewellery and clothing to
excite the most fastidious shopper.

building on historic King Street, Delaney Gallery reveals itself to be one

Gain an insight into Aboriginal history and culture through an extensive
range Of arts, crafts and artifacts, from paintings, boomerangs and

The Bannister Street Craftworks, established in 1979, provides unique
surroundings in which some of Western Australia's leading craftspeople

Located in an old fire station, this gallery specialises in original
prints, including etchings, screen prints and monoprints by leading
Western Australian and international printmakers.

- Fremantle Arts Centre
Housed in a picturesque Colonial Gothic building which served as an asylum
for deranged convicts in the 19th century, the centre hosts a dynamic
program of exhibitions with a major emphasis on works by Western
Australian artists. Classes and workshops in a wide range of arts and
crafts are also available. Free live music in the courtyard on Sunday
afternoons from September to April. Also houses a coffee shop, craft shop
and bookshop. The Fremantle History Museum is located in the same
building.

Housed in a grand old pub in the George Street Historic Precinct, New
Collectables Gallery has become one of Western Australia's most popular
art spaces, featuring the work of local artists and craftspeople at
