| HEPBURN
SPRINGS is not really a town at all, but a collection of guesthouses
and a wonderful Art Deco resort hotel in a green, hilly and peaceful spot
only 4km north of Daylesford. From the bus stop, walk through the shady
Soldiers Memorial Park to the Mineral Springs Reserve, where you
can taste three kinds of mineral water from old pumps and where the
revamped Hepburn Spa Resort is located (Mon–Fri 10am–8pm, Sat &
Sun 9am–8pm). You can spend as long as you like here in the relaxation
pool (32°C) and mineral-water spa (38°C; both Mon–Fri $8; Sat, Sun
& public holidays $9); or you could indulge yourself with twenty
minutes in your own aero-spa bath, with essential oils (Mon–Fri $17;
Sat, Sun & public holidays $21). |

| The southern wing has massage,
saunas, flotation tanks, and therapy and couch pools. Bookings must be
made at least three weeks in advance, especially for weekends.
The
Springs Hotel at the corner of Main Road and Tenth Street is a classic
1930s resort with guestrooms. There’s a good-value buffet lunch
in the dining room and a more expensive dinner menu; counter meals are
also available in the bar. Dudley House, at 101 Main Rd, is a
lovely Federation-style weatherboard house offering elegant bed and
breakfast.
An excellent choice for food is the Cosy
Corner Café at 3 Tenth St (daily breakfast and snacks, Thurs–Mon
lunch and dinner) which has a lot of vegetarian, but also some meat and
seafood dishes; licensed and BYO. |
