  • 3 Day Ayers Rock / olgas / Kings Kanyon Camping Safari

This camping tour caters for those on a limited budget but still wanting to travel in a small group (10 - 22 passengers). It is designed for those who are looking for adventure and who want to experience the beauty of Central Australia whilst enjoying the reward of camping and meeting new friends. Although there is no hard work on the camping tour it's success does rely on the participation of all the passengers to help with cooking, collecting firewood etc. Passengers considering this tours should be in good health, young at heart and be prepared to experience an unforgettable camping adventure.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Departing Alice Springs at approximately 07:00hrs, we travel south through the picturesque James and Waterhouse Ranges stopping at the Outback Camel Farm where you can enjoy a short camel ride (own expense). Heading westwards we view the striking Mt. Conner (Atila) and the saltpans. On arriving at Ayers Rock Resort we have lunch at our permanent camp before travelling to the majestic Olgas (Kata Tjuta) with a hike through the Valley of the Winds (weather conditions permitting). We return in time to view sunset on Ayers Rock (Uluru). Return to our camp for a traditional Aussie meal. (Lunch/Dinner)

Day 2: This morning you can see sunrise on Ayers Rock before tackling the challenge of the climb. Ayers Rock is 348 metres above the desert floor and the climb is 1.6 km, but even if you don't make the top the surrounding landscape is spectacular. This is followed by a base tour exploring ancient caves where aboriginal paintings, eroded rock faces and unusual rock formations can be seen. We then return to Ayers Rock Resort where time is allowed for an optional 30 minute scenic flight over the Olgas/Ayers Rock (own expense). After lunch we depart for Kings Creek Station (a working cattle/camel station) to our permanent overnight camp. An excellent night to swap yarns around the campfire under the beautiful star filled skies of Central Australia while enjoying a hearty bush dinner cooked over a crackling fire. Day 3: An early rise to travel out to Kings Canyon nestled in the George Gill Ranges. The next 4 hours we spend exploring this geological jewel situated at the western end of the ranges. View the 'Amphitheatre', 'Lost City', the striking north and south walls and the beautiful 'Garden of Eden'. Return to Kings Creek Station for lunch before returning to Alice Springs travelling through sand dunes and majestic desert oak trees. Arrive approximately 18:00hrs. (Breakfast/Lunch)

This tour is designed for those who are looking for adventure and who want to experience the beauty of Central Australia whilst enjoying the reward of camping and meeting new friends. After leaving Kings Canyon we travel via the Mereenie Loop Road (dirt) viewing Gosse Bluff (130 million year old comet crater). Overnight camp is at Wallace Rock Hole Aboriginal Community. Day 4: Wallace Rock Hole, is an Aboriginal community of the Arrente people. Here we have an opportunity to go on a guided tour into Wallace Rock Hole to view aboriginal rock art and hear about its meanings and how it was used to find water. We then travel along the Finke River, the oldest river bed in the world, to Palm Valley where there is ample time to explore Cycad Gorge. Palm Valley is the home of the ancient Livistona Mariae Palm and the only place to find them in the world. Enjoy the magnificent scenery as we travel through Tylers Pass to our overnight camp in the Western MacDonnell Ranges. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 5: A relaxing day in the Western MacDonnell Ranges visiting Glen Helen, Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and unique Standley Chasm. Return to Alice Springs late afternoon. (Breakfast/Lunch)
