ELLIOT, on the coast 14km west of Goolwa,
is a pleasant little town with some fine old buildings and a wonderful
find, the Sitar Indian Restaurant, 12 The Strand (tel 08/8554 2144;
summer dinner nightly, rest of year Wed–Sun), which serves traditional
Northern Indian food and vegetarian specials. |

| There’s
good surf between here and Victor Harbor – you can rent gear from
Southern Surf, at 36 North Terrace. Chiton Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club, on
Seagull Avenue (tel 08/8554 2047), overlooks the surf of Chiton Rocks
and has hostel-style accommodation aimed at surfers (up to $18). The best
beach for relatively easy surfing is Middleton, while Waitpinga
Pass offers more thrills to experienced surfers. For the latest surf
