Rasheed's Wilpena Pound Resort is located in the heart of South Australia's ancient Flinders Ranges. Wilpena Pound, a spectacular natural feature rises as an immense crater like fusion of stark purple ridges, overhanging bluffs and natural vegetation.

The Resort is located in the Flinders Ranges National Park and is surrounded by rugged mountain scenery, peaceful tree lined gorges, wildlife and seasonal wildflowers. The Park encompasses the magnificent scenery of Edeowie, Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges, Aroona and Bunyeroo Valleys, Wilpena Pound and surrounding areas. Nearby is the Moralana Scenic Route and magnificent Elder Range.

Euros, Yellow-footed rock wallabies and Western Grey Kangaroos often seen on the plains within the park. It is also a bird watching paradise with ninety seven species of birds catalogued in the area. Depending on the seasonal rains the spectacular wildflowers including the introduced wild hops and Salvation Jane can be seen during the spring.

Located 450 kilometres north of Adelaide (approximately 4.5 hours drive) quality sealed roads lead right to the resort. Drive yourself or take one of our regular coach services from Adelaide or Port Augusta or by private air charter. The local road network is suitable for conventional vehicles, however local advise should be sought during unsettled weather.

ACCOMMODATION

The Resort offers a variety of units to cater to most budgets with 34 motel style units (Aroona & Brachina), 16 deluxe cluster chalet units (Heysen) and 10 fully self-contained deluxe cluster chalet units with kitchenettes (Edeowie). All units comprise of a Queen/Double Bed and 2 Single Beds (few with 3 Singles in a Bunk) and enjoy private ensuites, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerators, air conditioning, television and in house video and are fully serviced on a daily basis. Units are available for the disabled.

Caravan and Camping: Our 101ha. caravan and camping park offers shady powered sites, cosy bush camping locations and purpose built coach group camping area. All this is adjacent to the magnificent Red Gum lined Wilpena Creek.

The restaurant is noted for its quality food, relaxed atmosphere and attentive service. Join friends, other guests or meet the locals while relaxing in the bar and lounge. The extensive wine cellar features quality South Australian and Australian wines. Light snacks and takeaway food can also be obtained from our bar or store.   • Shopping: Located in the visitor centre is a fully equipped store with essential items, takeaway food, drinks and liquor supplies, ice and souvenirs.
  • Visitor information centre: A full range of information is available including detailed walking maps, local attractions and general information on the Flinders Ranges National Park and the surrounding areas.
  • Motoring needs: Located at the visitor centre, unleaded, diesel, LPG and autogas are available. Emergency repairs can be arranged.
  • Solar Power: Wilpena Pound is powered by the largest solar (photo voltaic) generating system in the southern hemisphere.

  • Swimming pool: Cool off, plunge in, its there for your enjoyment.
  • Tours: We operate regular 4 wheel drive vehicle, tag-a-long tours and coach tours through the surrounding spectacular Flinders Ranges gorges and an exclusive 'Mountain Top Tour' on nearby Arkaba Station.
  • Horse riding: Let an Aboriginal guide you through the magnificent ranges to experience the flora and fauna and the Aboriginal Dreamtime culture. We can arrange itineraries to suit your needs.
  • Bushwalking: Wilpena Pound is a bushwalker's paradise. There are numerous marked walking trails to suit all levels of experience. These include the world famous Heysen trail which passes the resort as it winds its way through the Flinders Ranges. An extensive range of maps and information are available at our information centre.
  • Flights: You have not seen Wilpena Pound until you have seen it from the air, it is an unforgettable experience. We provide 20 or 30 minute flights over the local area or we can arrange flights to numerous other outback locations such as Andamooka, Arkaroola, Birdsville, Coober Pedy, Innamincka and the Coongie Lakes, Lake Eyre and William Creek.
  • History and Aboriginal Culture: The Land within the Park is important to the Aboriginal people collectively known as Admyanathanha, who have a traditional association with this part of the Flinders Ranges. The Park offers excellent examples of rock art which includes ancient aboriginal carvings and paintings. European settlement has left its mark on this landscape and the surrounding area features many stark reminders of early settlement, historic homesteads, ghost towns, abandoned mines all features stories of this early history.
  • Climate: Wilpena Pound enjoys fine sunny weather throughout the year, rainy days are few and humidity is rare. During the spring and autumn months temperatures can be expected to range from about a low of 13 Degrees Celsius to an average 25 Degrees Celsius. Winter months average 8 Degrees Celsius to 18 Degrees Celsius and in the summer the average is 18 Degrees Celsius to 31 Degrees Celsius. The stability of the climate makes this a year round destination, however, as with all locations weather extremes can be encountered. Obtain local advise at such times to ensure your safety and comfort.
