Tasmania is perfect for a self-drive vacation. The scenery is spectacular & is varied over short distances.If we are booking your accommodation in Hobart before your self-drive, we will arrange to have your car delivered to your hotel.

Day 1. Arrive Hobart Collect your car and drive to the hotel. See Hobart from a high point such as Mount Nelson or ramble along the trails around Mount Wellington offering glorious views of the city. Overnight: Lodge On Elizabeth.

Day 2. Hobart to Strahan (200 km) (124 mi) Traverse the spectacular Derwent Valley and travel to Strahan, getaway to Tasmania's SW Wilderness, part of World Heritage Area. Take a cruise (optional) on the famous Franklin-Gordon Rivers through the pristine Wild Rivers National Park. Overnight: Franklin Manor.

Day 3. Strahan to Cradle Mountain (140 km) (87 mi) Time for a cruise before taking the coast road to Zeehan. Then it's on to the Cradle Mountain area of Tasmania's World Heritage area. Overnight: Cradle Mountain Lodge.

Day 4. Cradle Mountain Your day is at leisure at Cradle Mountain.

Day 5. Cradle Mountain to Launceston (150 km) (93 mi) Travel through Moles Creek, a wildlife park and home of the Tasmanian Devil. Call into King Solomons Caves which are magnificent limestone caves. Continue to Launceston. Overnight: Colonial Motor Inn.

Day 6. Launceston Area Visit Penny Royal World and enjoy short walks through the picturesque and dramatic Cataract Gorge prior to undertaking a tour of Tasmania's Wine a Route through the Tamar Valley. Overnight: Colonial Motor Inn.

Day 7. Launceston to Swansea (123 km) (76 mi) Drive to St. Helens taking in the magnificent coastal scenery. Continue through the Chain of Lagoons to the seaside town of Swansea. Drive out to Freycinet National Park and walk to the top of the Hazards and view the beautiful Wine Glass Bay. Overnight: Meredith House.

Day 8. Swansea To Hobart (139 km) (86 mi) Travel through Sorell to the historic area of Port Arthur and the historic convict ruins. Don't miss the Isle of the Dead cruise. Continue to Hobart where you are booked to stay tonight.

Day 9. Depart Hobart. Drive to Hobart airport to return your car and join your onward flight.
