Day 1 Darwin to Kakadu (209 km) (130 mi) Along the Arnhem Highway drive to Jabiru and Kakadu National Park. Visit "Windows on the Wetlands" and Jim Jim and Twin Falls. Overnight: Kakadu Gagudju Crocodile Resort.

Day 2 Kakadu to Katherine (296 km) (184 mi) Drive to Katherine. Listen into the world's largest classroom - School of the Air. Visit Edith Falls, mysterious Cutta Cutta Caves and the majestic Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk NP). Witness a traditional corroboree. Overnight: Katherine Frontier Hotel.

Day 3 Katherine to Tennent Creek (677 km) (421 mi) Stop for a breather at the Daly Waters Pub. Drive through the heart of Australia to Tennant Creek where Australia's last gold rush happened in the 1930's. Overnight: Goldfields Motor Inn.

Day 4 Tennant Creek to Alice Springs (549 km) (341 mi) Stop at the Devils Marbles south of Tennant Creek. Next stop is Alice Springs. Clamber aboard a camel for a smooth ride down the dry river bed of the Todd River. Overnight: Desert Palms Resort.

Day 5 Alice Springs In the luminous dawn you can drift silently above the MacDonnell Ranges in a hot air balloon. Visit Galleries displaying outstanding Aboriginal art, crafts, textiles and pottery. Overnight: Desert Palms Resort .

Day 6 Alice Springs to Ayers Rock (444 km) (276 mi) The road to Australia's greatest tourist attraction, Uluru, is smooth and easy with some dramatic surprises along the way. Overnight: Outback Pioneer Lodge.

Day 7 Depart Ayers Rock Fly out of Ayers Rock this morning or spend another day exploring the area. Consider one of the many tours of Ayers Rock, or an opportunity to climb to the top of the Rock. Enjoy sunset at the Olgas.
