Selfdrive from Perth to Perth |
| Margret River Wine Experience (5 Days / 4 Nights / 2WD) |
| Day
1 Perth to Dunsborough: The next 5 days are designed so you can enjoy
the fruits of one the most sought after wine regions in the world.
Rivaling France and California as a premium wine growing region, the area
known as Margaret River is set against a backdrop of rugged coastline,
pristine beaches, pounding surf and towering forests. Head south from
Perth towards the major southern centres of Bunbury and Busselton.
Busselton is a logical stop for lunch and take time to marvel at the 2
kilometre long jetty, longest in the southern hemisphere. Today's
destination is Dunsborough, which sits at the northern end of the region
and is a good base from which to visit several wineries as well as the
spectacular beaches of Meelup, Eagle Bay and Yallingup. A complete guide
of the various wineries, their specialties and facilities are available
from many locations in the region. Overnight in Radisson Beach Resort.
Day 2 Dunsborough to Margret River: As most of the wineries do not open until 10am, we suggest an early morning swim. The short 5km drive out to either Eagle Bay or Meelup is well worth the effort. As the next 3 days will concentrate on wine, you may wish to consider a unique opportunity to dive over the former Australian Naval ship HMAS Swan which was recently purposely sunk off Dunsborough. |

| Many of
the wineries offer eating facilities so consult your guide and chose one
where you can combine tastings with lunch and or dinner. Remember to
always nominate a "skipper". As you work your way through the
back country lanes past the various wineries and their rolling hills
covered with grapes, follow the signs to Margaret River, your home for the
next 2 nights. Overnight 2 nights in Freycinet Inn.
Day 3 Margaret River: Again, if a morning swim is the order of the day, the 10km drive to Prevalley Beach will bring you to the home of the annual International Surf Classic. If big waves are only for watching, a few hundred metres down the beach a gentle break is ideal for novices and families. You are now in the heart of this remarkable wine growing region. The various wineries are too numerous to mention but all are within easy reach of one another, some simply over the road. All offer tastings and some will ship your purchases home for you. Plan your days based on the particular blends that suit your palate or just follow your instincts, you can't get lost. For the evenings, take advantage of local chefs who combine the best ingredients from the area to offer superb food to compliment the local vintage. Day 4 Margaret River to Perth: As you make your way north along the Bussell Highway back to Perth, there are several opportunities to sample the local cheeses that are also making the region famous. At Bunbury, head inland through Harvey and Pinjarra and marvel at the green rolling hills and variety of local fruit and vegetables. Now that you have been touched by the natural beauty of the southwest and the wines it has to offer, you will count the days until you can return. More Information |
