Selfdrive Routes in Australia

Starting in Adelaide

Driving South Australia’s roads can be a pleasure. However, while most roads are sealed and in good condition , care must be taken on those which are unsealed.

Some roads to watch in particular are those at the tip of Yorke Peninsula, most roads on Kangaroo Island, and the Strzelecki, Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks.

Make certain that your car is in first class condition at all times, and be fully equipped for all possible emergencies, including car breakdown and first aid.

In case of breakdown, contact the nearest country emergency service depot of the Royal Automobile Association (RAA) , listed in all regional telephone directories under ‘R’. The RAA also has offices in all major centres. Have a safe journey!

In cities and built-up areas, a speed limit of 60km/h generally applies. NB: Other speed limits may apply in residential areas - please obey road speed limits. A limit of 110km/h applies on all main connecting roads. A State Limit of 100km/h applies to all other roads not zoned otherwise.

A blood alcohol limit of 0.05% applies. Heavy fines and loss of licence are penalties.
