The Lodge

Binna Burra Mountain Lodge is a fully accredited eco-tourism retreat that combines the peace and tranquillity of a mountain getaway with a unique opportunity to explore and learn more about the rainforest environment.

Rustic Cabin Accommodation
The Lodge provides accommodation for a maximum of 115 guests in rustic timber and log cabins built from hand-cut tallow wood slabs. Some of our cabins date back to when the Lodge was first established in the early 1930s and while they have all been fully updated with modern amenities, there are no phones, clocks, radios or television to remind you of the life you've left behind.

Two levels of accommodation are available:

  • Acacia Cabins offer panoramic views of the Numinbah Valley and include private amenities plus tea/coffee making facilities
  • Casuarina Cabins are nestled amidst native gardens and have tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar and a vanity basin. Fully tiled amenities with spa bath are located on the same level, via a covered walkway.

Mountain Lodge Atmosphere

  • We encourage all our guests to enjoy the company of new-found friends through our daily activities program and in the relaxation areas around the Lodge. Share stimulating conversation by the roaring log fire in the main Guest Lounge where you'll also find a wealth of information about the Lodge and National Park
  • Plan the next day's activities and enjoy a spectacular mountain sunset over pre- or post-dinner drinks in the Library Lounge
  • Learn more about the Lamington National Park wilderness or find some light reading in our well-stocked Library
  • Buy locally-produced arts, crafts, souvenirs and essentials from the Lodge Gift Shop
  • Join in the friendly ambience of communal seating in our Clifftop Dining Room where the fresh home-style country cuisine is only surpassed by the mountain views.

Activities

Back in the 1930s, the founders of Binna Burra Mountain Lodge dreamed of creating a place where people could learn more about the rainforest through guided activities, discussions and first-hand encounters with the varied wildlife.

That tradition is still very much a part of the Binna Burra experience. Every day, guests can take part in a full program of guided bushwalks, adventure activities, evening spotlighting, lectures, discussions, parlour games and picnics.

Bushwalking - Lamington National Park is networked with over 160kms of marked walking tracks. Binna Burra's resident guides are all experienced naturalists and are happy to share their in-depth knowledge of the park ecosystems.

Adventure - Discover the thrill of repeilling down the face of the volcanic escarpment, soar above the treetops on the longest flying fox in the southern hemisphere or challenge yourself on the high and zipline ropes course.

For the Children - Our younger guests are well catered for with 'kids only' bushwalks, picnics and rainforest adventures. They also love the Discovery Forest, an environmental playground where they can learn all about the forces of nature.

In the Evening - Enjoy the old fashioned fun of a campfire sing-along or a typical Australian bush dance. Our guides also host nocturnal spotlight adventures and regular discussions on the history of the Lodge and the rainforest environment.

Joining in our organised activities is a great way to meet fellow guests and make new friends but, of course, you're more than welcome to enjoy Binna Burra at your own pace.

About Lamington National Park

Lamington National Park is a World Heritage-listed wilderness situated in the Border Ranges of southeast Queensland, a short distance from the Gold Coast. This vast forested region contains Australia's largest preserve of pristine sub-tropical rainforest.

The dramatic landscape of radiating ridges and cliff-lined valleys results from 20 million years of erosion to a huge volcanic mountain, the remnant core of which is known as Mount Warning. During climatic fluctuations and sea-level changes over the millennia, the mountain has remained a refuge for the various populations of Australia's Gondwana derived flora and fauna.

Because the central core of sub-tropical rainforest is bordered by a variety of other typical Australian vegetation types, the diversity of plants and animals is remarkable. The National Park boasts over 900 species of vascular plants and over 120 bird species.

A system of well formed and gently graded trails allows the visitor easy access to the majority of the parks features - ranging from palm filled valleys with waterfalls and crystal clear rivers to mist covered tops (1100 metres) clothed in cool-temperate rainforests dominated by Antarctic Beech trees. In between you can visit the spectacular eroded cliffs, enjoy wonderful vistas from prominent points or stroll through the wildflowers in shrubby heartlands.

Good signage exists and carefully prepared maps and self-guiding brochures are available from the Lodge. When combined with the safe environment and equitable sub-tropical climate they make Lamington National Park the most user-friendly rainforest wilderness in the world- all a mere 90 minutes drive from Brisbane International Airport!
