Bloomfield Track
The scene of vicious confrontations in 1984 between construction crews and environmentalists who tried unsuccessfully to stop this alternative road to Cooktown being built through virgin forest, the Bloomfield Track is completely impassable after rain and otherwise requires a 4WD.
Spanning 80km from Cape Tribulation to where the track joins the Cooktown Road at Black Mountain, the exciting section with drastic gradients lies below the halfway mark of the tidal Bloomfield River, which has to be crossed at low water.

Beyond Wujal Wujal community the road flattens out to run past Home Rule Rainforest Lodge at ROSSVILLE, which offers inexpensive meals, kitchen facilities and horse-riding, before reaching The Lions Den pub at Helenvale near Black Mountain, about thirty minutes from Cooktown. See also Daintree NP.
