New South Wales (Snowy Mountains)

Perisher Blue
Four resorts, Perisher, Smiggins Hole, Guthega and Blue Cow have all been amalgamated and are now part of one huge resort called Perisher Blue. Covering an area of 1250 hectares with 50 interconnecting lifts spanning seven mountain peaks this is the largest resort in the southern hemisphere.

The resort has a world class ski school with over 250 instructors from around the world. There are packages for everyone, from good skiers refining their technique to first timers and kids who wish to experience the thrill of skiing and snowboarding.

The catch cry for Perisher Blue has to be "bigger is better". There is no doubt about it Perisher Blue is BIG, a whopping 1250 hectares of skiable terrain provides a huge amount of variety over a vertical drop of about 350m. Since Perisher Blue is spread over 7 peaks you can always find an uncrowded area.

There is on snow accommodation at Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, and some at Guthega. Not all the accommodation is ski in ski out so if that is what you want just be careful, you may be getting oversnow home each night!

Perisher Blue provides a wide range of activities with night skiing, cross country trails, and a dedicated snowboard park just to name a few. The limited snowmaking sometimes means that the resort is a little late in opening and you often can't link between the different peaks unless almost all the lifts are open.

Access to Perisher Blue from Jindabyne is either via Kosciusko Road to Perisher or Guthega, or by the Skitube (a train through the mountains) from Bullocks Flat on the Alpine Way. The ski tube costs a bit more than a day pass, but saves on park entry fees and usually chain hire as well.

Perisher Blue is home to Channel 9's wild winter weekend each year which is usually in early August. This may be worth noting as an event not to miss or to avoid at all costs, its up to you!
