Located in the high-tourist Sydney Harbor area, Star City is themed like a "mini-city" with retail stores, nine restaurants, a conference and banquet center, theaters, nightclubs and a large 153,000 square foot casino. The Five-Star, 470-room hotel offers terrific views of the harbor and city skyline and is within walking distance of the central business district and main tourist attractions.
It is not an easy area to find one's way around, and visitors staying in the city are advised to catch a cab, at least the first time.
Entertainment
Opened in December 1997, Star City is open 24 hours a day, every day. It offers gamblers 1500 slot machines and 160 gaming tables including roulette, blackjack, baccarat, craps and the Chinese favourite Sic Bo. There is an exclusive high-rollers 'invitation only' club.
It has a Lyric Theatre seating 2000 and the Showroom Cabaret seating 900, seven restaurants and five bars. Star City has a regular entertainment program, often with internationally-known artists. Its concrete palm trees and interior décor is worth seeing, even if you do not gamble.
Food and liquor prices are on par with city hotels, and often cheaper. The casino has its own hotel and offers a range of packages, including room, food and entertainment.
Star City is the closest thing to Las Vegas glitz in Australia, though not on the same scale.
Star City’s nine restaurants feature everything from gourmet to buffet. The Astral restaurant specializes in a modern Australian menu and features a good selection of Australian and French wines. The Endeavour Room has a high-class and personal atmosphere in an Arabian themed room featuring Islamic/Moroccan architecture. Steak and seafood lovers enjoy Pyrmont’s while those craving high-quality authentic Chinese cuisine visit the Lotus Pond restaurant or Al Porto for traditional, classical Italian. For those who are really hungry, the Garden Buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Trophies pizza and fast food restaurant, and the Life Savers Brasserie are for those hungry folks looking for great food that is quick and convenient. Finally, Star is a special lounge for premium slot players that offers unparalleled Four-Star service.
AccommodationThe hotel block at Star City casino has 306 standard rooms, 44 suites, two dual-level penthouses and 121 apartments. All rooms boast harbour and or city skyline glimpses. If you can drag yourself away from the tables, as a hotel guest you can enjoy the health club, massage room and swimming pool.
All rooms feature individual air conditioning, pay television, the Star City entertainment channel, international direct dial telephone services and a separate phone line for fax or data. Rooms also have in-room bars (for those big wins) and hair dryers.
Serviced apartments range from one to three bedrooms. Car parking for the hotel and serviced apartment has a separate entrance so you won't get caught up in post-theatre traffic snarls.
