Blue Mountains Region

The Blue Mountains, just over an hour's drive west from Sydney, has long been a favorite escape for Sydneysiders, who come here to unwind in a region of national parks, fresh air and awe-inspiring scenery. Some pretty villages are dotted throughout the mountains, offering luxury guesthouse accommodation, restaurants with reputations for fine food, art and craft shops and cosy pubs to enjoy a wine or ale beside a fire. Each season brings its own rewards in the mountains, from the spring and autumn garden festivals to summer golf tournaments and winter Yulefest events - a time when guesthouses stoke up roaring fires and serve all the traditional Christmas Day indulgences.

Most of the year the climate of the Blue Mountains is moderate with temperatures in the teens and twenties. The temperatures may drop below freezing in the winter months with snow falls sometimes occurring . When going on long hikes warm clothing should be carried as the mountain weather can change quickly and dramatically.
