Malaysia

Introduction

Malaysia is divided into six major regions and Kuala Lumpur is its capital. The central region comprises the states of Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Malacca. In the north are Penang, Perlis, Perak and Kedah. The east coast states comprise Trengganu, Kelantan and Pahang and in the south is the state of Johore. The states of Sabah and Sarawak are on the island of Borneo.

The island of Labuan, eight kilometres off the coast of Borneo was previously part of the state of Sabah, but since 1984 it is a Federal Territory administered by the Prime Minister's Department as an International Offshore Financial Centre.

Each region has unique characteristics, interesting flora and fauna, sunny beaches, splendid islands and marine parks, historic sites and monuments.
