Fa'aa International Airport, Tahiti
Papeete is the main hub from which all Island
vacations in Tahiti Polynesia begin. Having the only international airport
in all of French Polynesia, it's the starting point for your Tahitian
experience. So unless you own your own yacht or jet, you'll need to make
arrangements to get to Papeete first, no matter what your other island
plans may include.
Fa'aa International Airport is located on the
Northwest side of Tahiti, only a few kilometres away from the towncentre
of Papeete. If you require a taxi, be prepared that taxi fares a quite
high.
Domestic Flights
The domestic airline Air Tahiti
has flights several times daily between Papeete and Bora Bora, Moorea
(also serviced by Air Moorea), Huahine, Raiatea and Rangiroa. Many of the
Tuamotu Islands are serviced with several flights a week. They feature a
fleet of comfortable and well maintained ATR 45/75 passengers planes which
are reliable and always on time. Please note the Domestic flights are only
scheduled during daylight.
The baggage weight
limit on inter-island flights is 20Kg or 42 lb per passengers (not
including hand luggage). But this is not strictly enforced.
