Your 'Dreamtime Seat'

Qantas was the first to introduce Business Class. Now we are perfecting it by creating a more comfortable environment for work or play - with new seats, restaurant quality cuisine and more.

Selected flights offer our new 'Dreamtime Seat' - the only Business Class seat in the world with five-way electronic adjustment. You can adjust your position for maximum comfort using the touch controls that are in your armrest.

Individual motors drive each silent movement - to adjust the seatback's independent support for your shoulders and upper back, move your lumbar support in and out, recline or raise your seatback, raise or lower the legrest, and extend or retract the footrest.

Of course it is entirely up to you whether you do any work in Business Class. You might prefer to stretch out in front of your individual video with ten channels for non-stop entertainment.

Note: The enhancements outlined above are part of a two year refit of the Qantas International Fleet commencing in June 1998. Until the programme is complete, not all aircraft will provide the product features detailed. Also, on some international sectors, Qantas may operate domestic aircraft which do not provide the product features detailed above.

Inflight Dining

You can now enjoy a new level of International Business Class dining - the kind you might expect in a quality restaurant. We have created new methods of food preparation to ensure that breakfast, lunch or dinner will be the freshest you have ever tasted in Business Class.

The first commandment of any top quality restaurant is to have the best produce. That's why we have formed a global network of specialist suppliers - so you can enjoy the best of regional and seasonal ingredients.

Every meal will have a distinctive Australian style that may also reflect the diversity and flavours of the countries we fly to.

We open the bar prior to take off so you may choose the drink of your choice - be it French Champagne, beer or juice. Once in the air, choose from top quality spirits, international beers, Australian vintage wines from South Australia's Coonawarra, Clare and Barossa regions, Victoria's Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula, Margaret River in Western Australia and the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. We also offer dinner ports and liqueurs.

You will certainly appreciate the wide selection of fine Australian and regional wines chosen by a panel of experts including connoisseur, Len Evans. Your flight attendant can advise you on the most suitable beverage for your chosen meal.

During dinner feast on the fine fresh cuisine. We offer a choice of two entrees such as Roasted Red Capsicum Soup or Braised Tuna and Olives with green bean salad. For your main course, you have a choice of three dishes. For example, you may request Roast Snapper with coriander crust, potato gratin and zucchini salsa, Spinach and Ricotta Lasagne, or Char grilled Beef Fillet with ratatouille and aioli. A fresh green leaf salad and palm sugar vinaigrette is served as a palate cleanser.

Selected cheeses will be served, perfectly ripe - just as they are in the world's best restaurants. Or instead you may whish to choose a dessert, especially when it is our Frozen Espresso Cake with chocolate sauce.

A refreshment service consists of either a set menu - Lamb, Olive and Preserved Lemon Pie with tomato jam, Bread and Butter Cake with double cream or Fresh Fruit, or we will be pleased to offer a refreshment which is available on request. This may feature sandwiches, fresh fruit and cheese depending on the route you are flying. Or you can ask for a fine vintage wine, a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee whenever you feel like it.

On Air Entertainment

Turn to your personal viewing screen and you will have a world of entertainment at your control. Adjust the screen, plug in your stereo headphones, and you're away.

Choose from ten video channels that run continuously so you can stretch out and enjoy feature films, sitcoms, music videos, news, sport and travel programs.

Want to know where in the world you are? You can keep track of your progress with our computerised map which shows your location, altitude, speed and time to destination.

Popular classics, jazz & lounge, new age, the latest hits, world music, comedy and more are available by selecting one of ten audio channels. On selected flights, a Cantonese, Taiwanese, Mandarin or Japanese channel is available.

The Business Class library has current business publications, newspapers and magazines. There is also The Australian Way which you will find in your seat pocket.

Inflight

You are welcome to be among the first or last to come onboard - it's up to you. Your flight attendant will take your coat and suitpack and hang them for you and you will then be shown to your *sleeper seat.

You will notice our completely redesigned interior and comfortable appointments of our new First Class cabin.

We have selected 350 flight attendants based on merit and have trained them to best serve the needs of First Class customers. Meeting your particular requirements is their personal commitment.

Make yourself more comfortable than you have ever been on an aircraft before. Use the controls at the end of your armrest to move with fingertip ease through a wide range of choices - from a relaxed reading position, to completely reclined on your 198cm (6'6") long bed. Then pull up your blanket and enjoy the best flights sleep you have ever had.

You will receive a complimentary First Class sleeper suit to maximise your comfort and reduce the crush on your clothes. And, even in a sleeping position, there is plenty of room between you and your neighbours.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner will be prepared and served by your flight attendant. He or she has been trained in the new art of inflight cuisine created by leading Australian restaurateur and chef, Neil Perry.

Guided by Neil's philosophy that the cornerstone of good eating is quality produce, we have formed a global network of specialist suppliers - so you can enjoy the best of regional and seasonal ingredients.

Every meal in our new First Class will have a distinctive Australian style that may also reflect the diversity and flavours of the countries we fly to.

You will notice there are no trolleys in our new First Class cabins. Your meal will be served individually, straight from the galley.
