Vanuatu was known as the New Hebrides before its
independence from Britain and France in 1980. Government owned Air Vanuatu
operates between Port Vila, Vanuatu's capital, Brisbane, Sydney, and
Melbourne, as well as Auckland, Noumea, and Nadi, Fiji, and the hub of the
South Pacific. Flying modern Boeing 737-400 equipment, South
Pacific ambiance is prevalent onboard with a full beverage service,
including champagne and cordials throughout the flight. Extra roomy
comfort can be enjoyed in their eight seat business class section.
Domestically, Vanair provides 29-destination
accessability to Vanuatu's idyllic 83-island chain, which includes
Espiritu Santo, where James Michener wrote "Tales of the South Pacific"
while stationed there during WWII.
